We hear those words after most financial transactions we make. Except when it comes to paying our taxes. We want to change that.
You get a receipt for everything: dry cleaning, groceries, a restaurant tab – and you check it to see what you bought. Every spring, Americans file their taxes, but do we know what we’re buying? How much goes to defense? Healthcare? Social Security?
If you think it’s important that Americans see and understand what their taxes pay for, help us provide all Americans with a receipt by helping us to crowdfund the development of this tool.
We need to raise $5,000 by March 31, 2016 in order to have this ready by tax day—April 15.
We provide this service to state and local governments around the country, such as Colorado, and want to do the same for the nation.
Contributors will be invited to a special online town hall meeting on March 25th to help us strategize on how to get the Taxpayer Receipt to as many Americans as possible.
